A Little About Me

Hi, my name is Mary Joyce, though most people call me MJ. I’m a licensed professional counselor dedicated to helping individuals and couples navigate life’s challenges with greater clarity, resilience, and self-understanding.

Seeking therapy can feel like a big step - especially when you’re already feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stuck, or carrying the weight of past experiences. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, depression, panic, trauma, chronic pain, or a major life transition, you don’t have to do it alone.

I work with adolescents, adults, and couples who are looking for support, insight, and meaningful change. Many of the people I work with are struggling with worry, self-doubt, emotional overwhelm, the impact of trauma, or relationship challenges. Together, we create a space where you can slow down, better understand what you’re experiencing, and begin to move forward with intention.

At the core of my work is the belief that the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important parts of the healing process. Feeling safe, understood, and genuinely supported creates the foundation for real change. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in evidence-based practices.

I integrate several modalities tailored to your needs, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to help you recognize and shift unhelpful thought patterns, EMDR to process past experiences and trauma that may still be impacting you, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) to build psychological flexibility and reconnect with what matters most.

For couples, I focus on improving communication, strengthening emotional connection, and helping partners better understand each other’s patterns and needs.

I place a strong emphasis on continued professional growth and bring that foundation into my work with clients. At the same time, I believe therapy is most effective when it feels human, supportive, and collaborative. My role is work alongside you - helping you gain insight, build tools, and move toward the life you want.

Above all, I strive to create a space where you feel safe, understood, and empowered.

Adults:

I support adults in areas of focus including anxiety, depression, grief, stress management, relationships, personal exploration & growth, life transitions and relationships. In addition to my general practice, I have an interest in working with chronic illness and/or injury.

Adolescents:

I enjoy working with adolescents (14+) in areas including self-esteem, peer relationships, anxiety, worry & sadness. I also support adolescents in times of transitions.

Couples:

I work with couples in order to foster open communication, deepen emotional connection, and cultivate trust. Couples gain invaluable insights into themselves and each other, fostering growth, resilience, and the foundation for a stronger, more fulfilling bond.
